Testing

commercial-electrical-inspectionAs specialist electrical contractors, Long’s Electrical offer a full electrical testing and inspection service for your business premises. All testing is carried out in accordance with BS7671 part 6.

UK Legislation requires that electrical installations are maintained in a safe condition and are therefore subject to periodic inspection and testing to establish any incidence of wear and tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, or damage through environmental influences.

Long’s Electrical have many years experience in electrical testing and are certified to carry out periodic inspection and testing for commercial electrical installations. Comprehensive reports denoting test results, circuits tested and recommendations for improvements are produced following each inspection.

By law, companies must take precautions against the risk of death or personal injury from electricity in work activities (Electricity at Work Regulations 1989). Neglecting faulty electrical systems could result in injuries to your employees, lost income and fines if found in breach of your statutory responsibilities. In some instances it may even invalidate any insurance claims.

When should Periodic Inspection and Testing be undertaken?
  • When it is a requirement implied by Licensing Authorities, Public Bodies, Insurance Companies, Mortgagors and Landlords.
  • To assess compliance with the current IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
  • On a change of ownership or tenancy of the premises.
  • On a change of use of the premises.
  • In the event of any significant change in the electrical loading of the installation.
  • Where there is a reason to believe that damage may have been caused to the installation.
What are the maximum periods allowed between Periodic Inspections?
  • Commercial Installations - 5 years.
  • Industrial Installations - 3 years.
  • Buildings open to the public - 1 year.
  • External Installations - 3 years.
  • Caravan Parks - 1 year.
  • Fire Alarms - 1 year.
  • Short Term Installations - 3 months.
  • Site Installations - 3 months.
These are guidelines only and are subject to individual risk assessments being carried out on the electrical installation.
